The East London Alliance Church (“ELAC”) is a church established by the Hong Kong Alliance Mission in 2010 to initiate a church-planting ministry in Southeast London. The church primarily serves and assists Chinese residents in the area, leading them to understand the gospel of Jesus Christ, and establishing and shepherding a community of believers. ELAC is an affiliate member of the Chinese Alliance Churches Union (United Kingdom) (“CACU(UK)”).
ELAC is located in Southeast London, which covers areas including Lewisham, Greenwich, and Southwark. The local Chinese community mainly comprises individuals from Hong Kong, Fujian Province in China, Taiwan, and Vietnam, with a few from Southeast Asia, speaking primarily Cantonese and Mandarin. According to municipal statistics, there are at least 15,000 Chinese people residing in and around this area. There are also two universities in the vicinity (Greenwich and Goldsmiths Universities). However, there was no Chinese church in the area, which led the Mission to send co-workers to launch the church-planting ministry of ELAC in that year.
